Here’s a lifelong lesson that hearkens from way back: In trying times, we can either laugh or we can cry. I like laughing more than crying. This is something I learned growing up in a household the loved Jewish comedians, who had sayings like “If you can’t say anything nice, say it in Yiddish” and “Rejoice not at thine enemy’s fall – but don’t rush to pick him up either.”
So in that vein, here’s Tom Lehrer, embodying the quote from Mel Brooks: “Humor is just another defense against the universe.”
It’s Tuesday, and that means it’s Tuesday Tunes Time (dammit do I love alliteration).
You’ll notice there was no post yesterday. That’s because yesterday was a holiday, and I was rightfully busy with other shit. But the rest of the posts are on schedule, with tomorrow being proofed and Friday getting set up for the Film Friday discussion of “The Verdict,” a Paul Newman film featuring an inebriated attorney in the case of his career.
Alright, so when I first started this blog there was a segment I called “Friday Music.” That was when my posting schedule was Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. However, with the recent shift, that means Friday Music is now a thing of the past.
So now we’re going to start Tuesday Tunes. But today’s Thursday, so…you know, this one is late.
Anyhow, here’s some Dean Martin for you on a rainy Thursday morning.
